Lattice strain evolution during uniaxial tensile loading of stainless steel
نویسندگان
چکیده
Applied and residual lattice strains were determined by neutron diffraction during a tensile test of a weakly textured austenitic stainless steel and were compared to the predictions of a self-consistent polycrystal deformation model. Parallel to the tensile axis the model predictions are generally within the resolution of the diffraction measurements, but perpendicular to the tensile axis discrepancies are noted. Discrepancies between model and measurements were greater for the residual lattice strains than during loading. It is postulated that this is because the model does not predict reverse plasticity during unload. © 1999 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.

Changes in Elastic-strain Profiles around a Crack Tip during Tensile Loading and Unloading Cycles
The changes in elastic lattice-strain profiles and plastic zone around the fatigue crack in a compact-tension specimen were investigated during monotonic tensile loading and unloading cycles using neutron diffraction. Spatially-resolved strain measurements were performed on a 316 LN stainless steel to determine the in-plane (parallel to the loading direction) lattice-strain profiles ahead of th...
متن کاملCrystallographic texture evolution in 1008 steel sheet during multi-axial tensile strain paths
This paper considers the crystallographic texture evolution in a 1008 low carbon steel. The texture evolution along uniaxial, plane strain and balanced biaxial strain states were measured. For uniaxial testing, grains tend to rotate such that the {111}〈11̄0〉 slip directions are aligned with the loading axis. For plane strain and balanced biaxial strain states, the majority of grains are distribu...
متن کاملShear and tensile plastic behavior of austenitic steel TRIP-120 compared with martensitic steel HSLA-100
Themechanical performanceofTRIP-120, a novel transformation induced plasticity steel alloy, is evaluated for different loading cases and strain rates. The performance is compared with HSLA-100, a lowalloy steel developed by the United States Navy and currently used in naval hulls. The response of these materials under uniaxial tension and shear was investigated to the point of fracture at isoth...
متن کاملHot tensile properties and strain hardening behaviour of Super 304HCu stainless steel
Super 304HCu austenitic stainless steel containing 2.3–3 (wt.%) of Cu is mainly used in superheaters and reheaters tubing of ultra super critical boilers which operates over 600 ◦C of steam temperature. Tensile tests were carried out on Super 304HCu, using nominal strain rate of 1 × 10−3 s−1, at room temperature, 550 ◦C, 600 ◦C and 650 ◦C. The tensile strength and elongation were found to decre...
متن کاملLoad Partitioning in a Duplex Stainless Steel with Surface Strength Gradient and Residual Stresses
The load partitioning between surface and bulk was studied by means of in-situ synchrotron energy dispersive diffraction in an SAF 2507 superduplex stainless steel having a strain hardened surface layer with compressive residual stresses. Two loading cycles with a peak tensile strain of 0.5% and 0.87%, respectively, were successively applied and the evolution of stresses in the respective const...
